Hockey Day in Houston is officially slated for March 20, 2027 for the fourth annual event, which has raised over $110,000 into local Houston hockey organizations and programs throughout the years. The event — which has also awarded 16 scholarships in partnership with The Howe Foundation, in honor of Gordie and Colleen Howe — will once again be held at Saint Arnold Brewing Company (11:00 a.m. CST) and feature NHL, WHA and professional hockey alumni. In 2026, the NHL's Dallas Stars had a booth set up at the event with alum Bob Bassen in attendance. Cards of Houston native and current Stars player Tyler Myers were also given away. Last year's event would raise over $40,000 which was matched by an additional $25,000 to go towards academic scholarships and hockey organizations across the city. 2027's rendition of Hockey Day in Houston will also be in partnership with the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority. The HCHSA is responsible for overseeing the city's sports venues (managing stadium debt through hotel and rental car taxes, generating billions in economic impact). Lance Rosenberg, Hockey Day in Houston Co-chair, said the event continues to grow year after year. "What started as a bold idea in 2024 has become a Houston tradition. Every year the crowds get larger and the enthusiasm gets louder, and our fourth annual event will be no exception as we continue to show why Houston Is A Hockey Town," Rosenberg said. Harris County-Houston Sports Authority partnering with Hockey Day in Houston for 2027 event Over 16,000 have attended the event in years past. This year's theme will be centered around honoring the city's deep history with the sport and pre-existing hockey organizations in addition to showcasing how hockey became a vital part of the city's culture throughout the population growth of the major Texas city. "Hockey Day in Houston captures so much of what makes our city special, with our passionate fans, strong community support, and a growing appetite for sports across every level," said Holly de Beer, Chief Operating Officer of the Harris County–Houston Sports Authority. "Events like this support the future of sports across our region, strengthen community ties, and expand opportunities for young athletes." Another focus of the event is to, of course, grow the sport in Houston. The Bulls, University of Houston, Rice University, Houston Hellhouds Sled Hockey, the Houston Girls Hockey Association/HTX Storm, and Women's Hockey Outreach Association of Houston are expected to once again also be involved. The 2027 event follows the announcement of the upcoming inaugural season of the North American Hockey League's Houston Bulls in addition to the fact that the NHL is currently evaluating Houston or Austin to be the League's 33rd possible franchise.
