Home Team Friday Nights previews the Lafayette Generals football team

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — The Lafayette Generals have been trending in a positive direction over the past few seasons under Head Coach Jon Lawson.

Lafayette returns a large core from 2025 with fewer than 10 seniors graduating, and now they look to take that next step in competing in Lexington and in class 6A.

“It's one of the greatest strengths of having a team. We have guys come back like this. I think what happens is, you know, once they understand the culture and they follow the lead of the seniors and guys that were here before, as long as they carry on that particular expectation and passion for the game, it just makes things better, makes things easier as coaches, because you come out, they already know what to do and how to do it,” Lawson said.

Coach Lawson believes that the work his upperclassmen have put in to get Lafayette back on the map will translate to them being competitive and continuing to build a winning culture.

“This group has been a very strong group that has been here. Some of these guys have actually played since they were freshmen. You know, because we started in a different place four years ago. So, we've gained a lot of experience with these guys. I'm excited to see what they can do," Lawson said..

Lafayette will start their season on August 21^st at home against North Oldham.
