Their latest signing is Bruno Guimaraes, whose arrival has made their midfield one of the best in the world and could make it even harder for opponents to compete against them in the middle of the pitch.
Merino Praises Arsenal Midfield
The Brazilian arrives as a warrior and one of the best players in his role on the continent after starring for Brazil at the 2026 World Cup. His arrival has added further quality to an already strong midfield and gives Arteta another important option in the centre of the pitch.
Merino may have played frequently in attack, but he is also a midfielder and is delighted with the quality Arsenal have in that position. As quoted by Metro Sport, he said:
‘Honestly, it’s unreal. Probably the best midfield in football.
‘The amount of quality that we have there, with every player that can come on the pitch and make a good shift. It’s great.

Merino believes the quality within the midfield benefits the entire squad because every player is capable of making an impact when given an opportunity. The competition for places also ensures that everyone remains motivated and maintains a high standard.
‘That’s good for the team. That’s good for the squad. It raises everyone’s level because if you have a bad day, the one that is close to you is going to do a great job.
‘I think we have an amazing squad. The hunger is still there. Not because we won it last season, we’re going to be happy with it.’
His comments underline the belief within the squad that Arsenal can continue improving despite their success last season. The strength of their midfield gives them another reason to remain confident as they prepare to compete across all competitions.
