Chris Paul could have been a Laker during his playing days. Following the massive ownership change, he could finally find his way to the franchise thanks to one key reason.

Chris Paul announced his retirement earlier in 2026, bringing an end to a legendary NBA career. The Point God amassed incredible accolades over the years, although he never did win a championship.

Arguably the biggest ‘what if’ in CP3’s career was when the league rescinded a trade to the Los Angeles Lakers. It would have seen him team up with Kobe Bryant and changed everything.

The move never materialised. Paul became a Clipper instead, and the rest is history. However, while he never made it there as a player, things could be different for the 41-year-old in retirement.

Chris Paul’s ‘close’ relationship with Bob Iger could see him land a role with the Lakers

In a shocking twist, the Los Angeles Lakers were sold to former Disney CEO Bob Iger and Josh Kushner earlier this week. Mark Walter had the team for under two years before selling it for $12.5 billion.

Iger was famously a fan of the Los Angeles Clippers, which he has spoken about in the past. It turns out that he shares a relationship with CP3 that could lead to a Lakers role for the latter.

“Chris Paul and Bob Iger have been close since Chris arrived in L.A. Bob was a Clippers season ticket holder before the trade,” the Sporting Tribune’s Arash Markazi reported.

“I thought Chris would join Bob in some capacity, maybe as an advisor, if he got the NBA expansion team in Vegas. That might now happen with the Lakers.”

Paul is known for his high basketball IQ, and many have suggested that a coaching or executive role is in his future. If it’s with the Lakers, that would be a full-circle moment, to say the least.
