How the arrival of Lucumi will shape Juventus style of play

Jhon Lucumi is the latest defender to join Juventus after the Bianconeri reached an agreement with Bologna to add the Colombian to their squad during this transfer window. The defender has always wanted to move to Juventus, despite interest from other clubs, and worked hard to make the transfer happen even when there were opportunities to move elsewhere.

The Bianconeri also view Lucumi as one of the top defenders in the league and believe he will strengthen their squad. His arrival has now been completed, giving Juventus another important option at centre back as they prepare for the new season.

Lucumi Brings New Quality

Juventus could now look to sell one of their centre-backs following Lucumi’s arrival. However, even if that does not happen, he is expected to start matches alongside Gleison Bremer.

The Colombian has the qualities Juventus believe they need in their defensive line, and his arrival could have an impact on the way the team approaches matches. The Bianconeri want to play with greater aggression and push higher up the pitch, making the right defensive partnership particularly important.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport, Juventus signed Lucumi because he can help them play a much more attacking style and allow the team to operate higher up the pitch. His attributes are considered well suited to the approach Luciano Spalletti wants to implement.

Spalletti Trusts Lucumi and Bremer

Lucumi is a very fast and aggressive centre-back, qualities that make him similar to Bremer. Juventus believe having both defenders together can provide security against fast counterattacks when the team is committed to attacking.

That balance will be important for Spalletti, who wants his team to play on the front foot without leaving themselves unnecessarily exposed. Lucumi’s pace and aggression could therefore allow Juventus to take greater risks in possession and maintain a higher defensive line.

Spalletti has long identified Lucumi as the ideal partner for Bremer if Juventus are to play at their best. The defender’s arrival allows the manager to build the partnership he believes can help his tactical plans work effectively.

Lucumi will now aim to justify the confidence placed in him and establish himself as an important part of Juventus’ defence. His determination to join the club also demonstrates how highly he values the opportunity to work under Spalletti and compete for Juventus.
