That counts for the German club’s sole win in their rivalry to date, with Los Blancos emerging on top in each of their previous three encounters.
Former Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate could make his Real debut in Gelsenkirchen after joining up with the squad following his post-World Cup break. Yan Diomande could make his own bow against Schalke after completing a $144 million move to Madrid, though the club is managing his workload carefully.
