The Washington Commanders are one of the NFL’s oldest organizations. They joined the league in 1932 in Boston, but have been in the Washington, D.C., area since 1937. The team has had years of success and years of poor performance, but its 2024 success definitely helped its valuation increase over the last few years.
In 2020, Sportico began releasing an annual valuation report for all 32 NFL teams. The average NFL team is worth $9.34 billion, which is a 31% increase from 2025, when the average team was worth $7.13 billion. It’s the biggest single-year increase in at least a decade.
The Commanders aren’t the highest-value NFL team; the Dallas Cowboys hold that honor, valued at an astonishing $15.5 billion. The Commanders also aren’t the lowest-value NFL team. That honor belongs to the Cincinnati Bengals, valued at just $7.4 billion.
The Commanders fall outside the top 10, ranking as the 11th most-valuable team in the NFL. In 2026, the Commanders are worth $9.64 billion. Although their valuation rose 30% year over year from 2025, the Commanders fell from 10th to 11th on the list. The Atlanta Falcons jumped three spots this year with a 39% year-over-year increase and landed at 10th, bumping the Commanders down.
If the Commanders are as successful in 2026 as they were in 2024, we’ll likely see another big increase in valuation next year. The big increase in valuation will come when Washington opens up its new stadium in Washington, D.C. in 2030.
