Julian Edelman did not need to make a catch to make an impression on the New England Patriots. The three-time Super Bowl champion attended the team’s walkthrough Tuesday, giving the current roster another opportunity to spend time around one of the most beloved players in franchise history.
Hunter Henry welcomed the visit.
“It’s always good to have Patriots legends around,” Henry told reporters from the media tent.
It was a short answer that carried plenty of meaning.
Edelman spent his entire 12-year NFL career in New England, transforming from an unheralded seventh-round draft pick and former college quarterback into one of the most productive postseason receivers in league history. For a Patriots team attempting to build upon its run to Super Bowl LX, Edelman represents far more than nostalgia. His career provides a blueprint for the toughness, preparation and reliability New England wants throughout its roster.
Hunter Henry Understands Value Of Patriots’ Championship Standard
Henry has become one of the players responsible for carrying that standard forward. The veteran tight end recently signed a two-year contract extension reportedly worth $16 million, with the potential to reach $20 million through incentives. The deal includes $14.5 million guaranteed, according to ESPN.

Henry earned that commitment after recording 60 receptions for 768 yards and seven touchdowns last season. He added nine catches for 112 yards and another score during New England’s postseason run. The 31-year-old has caught at least 40 passes in each of his five seasons with the Patriots. Only Ben Coates, who reached that mark in six consecutive seasons from 1993 through 1998, has produced a longer streak among tight ends in franchise history.
Henry also has emerged as one of Drake Maye’s most trusted teammates. He cited his relationship with the Patriots quarterback as one reason he wanted to remain in New England.
“That’s my guy,” Henry said after signing his extension. “He’s a special person.”
The Patriots are counting on that connection as they attempt to take another step offensively. Edelman’s presence offered a reminder of how valuable that quarterback-pass catcher trust can become when the stakes are highest.

Julian Edelman Still Carries Enormous Weight In New England
Edelman caught 620 passes for 6,822 yards and 36 touchdowns during his regular-season career. His greatest work came in the postseason, where he amassed 118 receptions and 1,442 receiving yards. Only Jerry Rice has more career postseason receptions or receiving yards.
Edelman also delivered several of the defining moments of New England’s dynasty, including his remarkable catch during the Patriots’ historic comeback against the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI. Two years later, he caught 10 passes for 141 yards against the Los Angeles Rams and became the seventh wide receiver to win Super Bowl MVP.
That history explains why Henry was pleased to see Edelman at the walkthrough. Former players do not need formal coaching roles to provide value. Their presence allows the current roster to hear from someone who understands exactly what it takes to succeed in New England.
