Ian Poulter joined LIV Golf from the PGA and DP World Tours back in June 2022.

Ever since then, Poulter has been one of LIV Golf’s most vocal cheerleaders.

The 50-year-old Englishman has enjoyed a wonderfully successful career in the game, but he is still waiting for his first victory on LIV.

LIV Golf seems to suit Ian Poulter perfectly at this stage of his career, with fewer events and boisterous crowds in attendance every week.

However, the league’s future is in doubt right now, despite the recent news that CEO Scott O’Neil has managed to acquire fresh investment ahead of the 2027 season.

When that news broke, Poulter said he was very excited about LIV Golf’s future.

However, it seems as though he has now changed his tune.

Ian Poulter admits it may be all over for LIV Golf

The LIV Golf star spoke to Jimmy Bullard during an appearance on GOLF LIFE on YouTube.

Poulter was asked whether he truly believes that LIV Golf will survive beyond the end of the current season.

“I think time might run out,“ the Englishman replied.

“There is a hard deadline I think of September 1st. There is four weeks to find $300 million. That is not a lot of time considering people and contracts have got to be signed.

“You have to ask the PIF: are you happy to accept sending this business that is running today into bankruptcy to be able to have a go forward into a 2.0 version, and give someone a $6 billion write-off?

“I hope for a lot of golfers, because a lot of golfers don’t have much of a choice, because they are in the form of playing LIV Golf.

“There are some who have the opportunity to play DP World Tour and there are a few that might have the opportunity to go and play PGA Tour golf, because they are such big names. There are some that can’t do either.

“Where am I at? I am 50. I have some opportunity to play Champions Tour. If LIV does a 2.0, I have a choice to go and play that. It’s up in the air.“

Ian Poulter highlights how LIV Golf has benefitted the game

Poulter responded when asked what he believes has been the biggest positive since LIV Golf’s inception.

“It’s been good, hasn’t it? It’s been amazing,“ he said.

“The stuff I take away from it for what we have done. We have taken the game of golf around the world. We have had 100,000+ fans in Australia, we have had 110,000 fans in South Africa. We have taken the game to Hong Kong, Singapore, Korea, Spain.

“If you think about what we have done to the game of golf and how that has changed the landscape of golf, some people don’t like it, I get it. They don’t like it.

“But look at what good we have done for the overall landscape of taking some of the best players in the world to some of the best countries in the world to grow the game of golf.

“Majesticks and Little Sticks, we have put golf clubs in the hands of kids. We are in 324 schools’ PE curriculum, so we have touched over 50,000 kids in the UK in PE. Now would that have happened if LIV hadn’t come around? No. So what does that mean in the bigger picture? I think we have done an amazing job and we can continue to do an amazing job.

“Whether you like the product or not, it may not exist next year, but it might.“
