Sophie Cunningham reached a personal milestone Sunday, and the Indiana Fever made sure the veteran guard felt the love.

Cunningham celebrated her 30th birthday on Aug. 16. The Fever marked the occasion by sharing a special birthday message for Cunningham on the team’s official social media account.

“wishing a very happy birthday to Sophie Cunningham,” Indiana wrote.

It was a simple message for a player who has become one of the Fever’s most recognizable personalities.

Cunningham is rarely difficult to spot. Whether she is knocking down a timely three-pointer, bringing energy off the bench or passionately defending a teammate, the former Missouri star has established a clear identity in Indiana.

Her 30th birthday offered the Fever an opportunity to celebrate everything she has brought to the franchise.

Sophie Cunningham has found a home with the Fever

Cunningham joined Indiana before the 2025 season after spending the first six years of her WNBA career with the Phoenix Mercury. Phoenix originally selected her with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2019 WNBA Draft. Cunningham gradually developed from a second-round pick into a dependable rotation player and dangerous perimeter shooter.

Her first season with Indiana was cut short when she suffered a torn MCL, but Cunningham returned to the Fever for the 2026 campaign. She has rewarded that decision by averaging 8.8 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.

The numbers only tell part of the story.

Cunningham brings toughness and confidence to a Fever team attempting to establish itself as a consistent championship contender. She is willing to take difficult defensive assignments, battle for loose balls and provide an emotional lift when Indiana needs one. She also gives Caitlin Clark another experienced perimeter option. Cunningham’s ability to space the floor creates additional driving and passing lanes for Clark while making it more difficult for opponents to crowd the Fever’s stars.

Her personality has made an equally significant impression. Cunningham has become a fan favorite because she rarely hides what she is feeling. She plays with visible emotion, supports her teammates and understands how to engage with Fever fans both inside Gainbridge Fieldhouse and on social media.

Sophie Cunningham enters her 30s with plenty left to accomplish

Turning 30 represents a major milestone, but Cunningham is not approaching the end of her impact in the WNBA. Her outside shooting and physical style should continue to translate as she moves deeper into her career. She has also accumulated the kind of experience that becomes increasingly valuable for a team with championship aspirations.

Cunningham has appeared in the WNBA Finals, handled several different roles and worked her way back from a significant knee injury. Those experiences give Indiana another trusted veteran for high-pressure moments. The Fever have enjoyed one of their best stretches of the season, winning eight of their previous 10 games. Cunningham has helped Indiana find the edge and chemistry needed to navigate a demanding schedule.

There will be more basketball ahead and far more important moments for the Fever to chase. Sunday, however, was about celebrating Cunningham. After becoming such a passionate defender of her teammates, Indiana returned the love with a well-deserved birthday shoutout.

Happy 30th birthday to Sophie Cunningham.
