Ben Foster is shocked that Arsenal allowed Leandro Trossard to leave the club this summer, considering the Belgian has been one of their most important players in recent seasons. Trossard completed a move to Besiktas after Belgium’s World Cup campaign ended, with the Turkish club reaching an agreement with Arsenal before the attacker returned from the competition.

As soon as Belgium were eliminated, Trossard moved to the Turkish side. Arsenal quickly replaced him with Christos Tzolis, but the decision to allow the experienced attacker to leave was not one Foster expected.

Foster Questions Trossard Departure

Foster believes Trossard has been one of the most influential players in the Arsenal team and feels the Gunners should have done everything possible to keep him in the squad. The Belgian had established himself as an important option for the club, making his departure particularly surprising to the former goalkeeper.

Arsenal have continued to build a squad capable of competing at the highest level, with the club determined to maintain a team filled with quality players. From Foster’s perspective, that decision to allow a key player such as Trossard to leave is even more difficult to understand.

Arsenal Accepted Trossard Offer

However, Arsenal could not turn down the offer for Trossard’s signature, particularly because the attacker had only one year remaining on his contract at the Emirates. The club therefore decided to accept the opportunity to sell him rather than risk losing him later.

Foster remains unconvinced by the decision, however, and has questioned whether Arsenal should have allowed such an influential player to leave. The former goalkeeper believes Trossard’s importance to the team should have made his departure much harder to accept.

Speaking via Metro Sport, Foster said: ‘I don’t like the Trossard sale, I really don’t.

‘I think he’s such a big, influential player for them and I can’t believe they’ve sold him.

His comments reflect his disappointment with Arsenal’s decision. While the Gunners have already brought in Tzolis as a replacement, Foster believes Trossard’s influence made him a player worth keeping, despite the circumstances surrounding his contract.
