Coach Sean McVay’s Los Angeles Rams are one of the preseason favorites to win the Super Bowl next season. The Rams finished last season with a 12-5 record and lost narrowly 31-27 to the eventual Super Bowl champions, the Seattle Seahawks, in the NFC Championship Game.

Analyst Details Concern over Sean McVay’s Rams

During Wednesday’s segment of the “First Take” show, analyst Kevin Clark revealed his sole concern with the Rams next season.

“I have concerns whenever there’s a veteran-heavy roster,” Clark said. “We’ve seen this in the last couple of years with the 49ers, where you’ve got a bunch of guys on second and third contracts, and even though they’re 29-30, that’s not old in life, but it’s old in the NFL.”

Clark revealed that a source within the Rams organization also pinpointed their aging roster and injuries as concerns that could derail their Super Bowl ambitions next season.

“I get concerned when I see Myles Garrett sitting out of practice,” Clark added. “Puka Nacua’s a younger guy, he hasn’t got his mega extension, but he’s obviously being held out. One of the reasons super teams don’t work in the NFL sometimes is because it’s a bunch of veterans you’ve heard of.

“And oftentimes, when you get a bunch of those guys, I’m still picking the Rams to win the Super Bowl. I am. I love them, but I still think that we have a bunch of old guys; relatively speaking, it could backfire.”

The Rams gave up significant draft capital to trade for Myles Garrett, but the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year was held out of training on Tuesday because of a swollen knee. Garrett has shown his durability by missing only two games since the start of the 2021 season.

Last season, the Rams had the league’s best PFN Offense Impact score of 90.2 but boasted the fifth-best PFN Defense Impact score of 87.1.

McVay responded by trading for Garrett and Trent McDuffie to bolster the team’s defense, and Rams icon Aaron Donald is reportedly also eyeing a return to action.

Nacua also left the Rams’ practice session early on Tuesday, creating panic among fans, but it turned out to be a sore groin.

McVay and the Rams have assembled one of the league’s most talented rosters, and four years after winning Super Bowl LVI, they are expected to win it again, but, like Clark said, injuries can ruin this dream season for them.
