Though Sophie Cunningham appears to have moved past the DiJonai Carrington hard foul, analysts are still weighing in on that tense situation last Saturday. For Angel McCoughtry, Carrington’s physicality meant way more than stopping a fastbreak layup.

On Wednesday’s episode of the “Court Vision” podcast, McCoughtry disagreed with the take of her co-host Ros Gold-Onwude, who called Carrington’s foul “a basketball play.”

“Your hand goes up to block [a shot], not around the neck. To me, whenever an arm wraps around, that looks personal. It looked personal…I’m not saying you gotta like Sophie Cunningham, but that’s a personal vendetta kind of thing.”

McCoughtry also reacted to Carrington posting “White privilege @indianafever” after she got ejected from the Fever-Sky game for fouling Cunningham.

“If it was the fans saying something, you would go at the fans. But you personally tweeted the Indiana Fever. What do you have against the Fever? I’m confused on that part.”

In addition, McCoughtry, who is a 14-year veteran and a two-time WNBA scoring champion, wondered out loud what the Sky’s PR team was doing in these circumstances involving their player.

For her part, Cunningham called Carrington “a hell of a player” after the Fever-Liberty game on Tuesday. The Fever guard sounded sincere as she relayed a complimentary message, but for others, Carrington was fueled by other motives when she fouled Cunningham.

Skip Bayless Gives His Interpretation of DiJonai Carrington’s “White Privilege” Comment After Getting Ejected From Fever-Sky Game

As for Skip Bayless, DiJonai Carrington’s “White privilege” remark needed to be viewed in a different light.

According to Bayless, Carrington’s post could be understood in the context of her dynamic with Fever coach Stephanie White, who used to coach her when they were both with the Connecticut Sun.

“I don’t know. Maybe when DiJonai Carrington immediately tweeted “white privilege” after her Flagrant 2 ejection, she meant Fever coach Stephanie White likes and protects her more than White does Sophie Cunningham.”

Notably, Cunningham also defended White in her Tuesday post-game interview, saying that she and her coach are “good.”
