Sophie Cunningham has become a controversial figure in the WNBA world following her comments on trans athletes competing in women’s sports.
Some people have shown their support for Cunningham, while others have hit out at the Indiana Fever star, including giving her the nickname ‘MAGA Barbie’.
Now, while the WNBA star has not done anything herself this week, she is in the news once again due to her name being banned from the subreddit r/WNBA.
The league have released a statement addressing Cunningham’s subreddit ban, which said that ‘The WNBA does not moderate or have any affiliation with the r/WNBA subreddit’.
Now, comedian Sam Tripoli has reacted to the ban via his X/Twitter account.

Sophie Cunningham name ban called out
As the WNBA have nothing to do with the subreddit, the decision to ban Cunningham’s name was taken by those who run and moderate r/WNBA.
It has been reported that one moderator explained: “We filter content based on Sophi [sic] because it tends to bring out trolls and people who aren’t fans of the W.”
Now, in his tweet, Tripoli seemed to point out the hypocrisy of the moderators banning her name.
He wrote: “It’s hilarious how much the people who love inclusion love to exclude people they don’t agree with.”
This is just one of the latest in a growing list of incidents surrounding the WNBA and the ongoing debate regarding trans athletes.
There were also reports in recent days that two WNBA fans were told to cover up their XX-XY T-shirts during the Fever’s meeting with the Atlanta Dream.
The Indiana Fever are now back in action on Tuesday night, with their game likely to draw much attention.
