Injuries have been the talk of training camp so far for the Chicago Bears, and the wide receiver position is no exception. Luther Burden is expected to be sidelined for about a month, leaving a hole in Chicago’s plans at receiver for the rest of training camp and possibly for the first game of the regular season. The Bears are looking for the rest of their receivers to step up and so far, Jahdae Walker has risen to the challenge, putting himself potentially in contention for the No. 3 wideout. However, while he embraces the competition, he also wants everyone in the receiver room to succeed. "I want them guys to succeed as much as I want myself to succeed," Walker said. "Everyone is trying to say there’s this competition, it’s always going to be competition, but we’re going to continue to push each other to be better. If they have a question and I know, I’m not going to gate keep it and we’re going to help each other out."
In Chicago’s first unofficial depth chart, Walker was listed as a second-team receiver and No. 4 overall on the depth chart, ahead of rookie Zavion Thomas, who is also currently day-to-day with an injury. Walker has really come a long way since being an undrafted rookie last year. Furthermore, with Burden currently sidelined, Walker is the No. 3 overall receiver in training camp and for the duration of the preseason, which is allowing him to get more first-team reps in practice. He could emerge as a player who has more of an impact on Chicago’s offense than people expect this season.
