SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Elleh Brown’s shot from just outside the box with a little under five minutes to play in the second half was perfectly placed and helped the Jefferson Cavaliers salvage a tie in the opening game of the season.
Jefferson had struggled offensively in this game up until scoring the goal, as they only had a handful of scoring opportunities in the entire 80 minutes.
Brandon Valley had just a few more offensive chances than Jefferson, however with the game scoreless early in the second half a perfect through ball sent Claire Minion in alone, her defender fell down giving Minion a one-on-one with the keeper where she converted.
However, the official ruled it a foul and the goal would be disallowed. Keeping the game scoreless.
Just a few minutes later Brandon used that overturn as motivation for their first goal. A rocket shot off the keeper’s mitts sailed right back out to Alaya Schunke who deposited the Lynx first goal of the season into the back of the net to give them a 1-0 lead.
The Lynx played strong defense the rest of the way and were substituting efficiently as well, unfortunately there was nothing they could have done about the perfect shot by Brown as they’d settle for a draw.
Up next Jefferson heads to Pierre on Tuesday while Brandon Valley makes the trip to Watertown.
