Jets predicted to make disappointing Omar Cooper Jr. decision originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The New York Jets have added a lot of new faces to the offense in the last year, upgrading at quarterback with Geno Smith, tight end with Kenyon Sadiq, and wide receiver with Adonai Mitchell and Omar Cooper Jr. While Smith and Sadiq are locked-in starters if they're healthy, the same cannot be said for Mitchell and Cooper. At least, that was the case before Mitchell took control of the WR2 job in this Jets offense. Now, only Cooper is left to try and win a starting job. However, Bleacher Report's Alex Kay is predicting that Cooper will lose the WR3 job to Isaiah Williams this summer in an outcome that'd be very disappointing, but is also looking incredibly realistic as the season approaches. Jets' Omar Cooper Jr. predicted to lose WR3 battle to Isaiah Williams "New York Jets WR3: Omar Cooper Jr. vs. Isaiah Williams. Predicted Winner: Isaiah Williams," Kay predicts. This shouldn't come as a huge surprise, as the trend lately has appeared to be Williams cementing his status as the team's WR3. He played with the starters during the first preseason game, and Cooper played with the backups deep into the game. The reports from training camp have been more of the same, with Cooper a part of the backup offense. MORE: Ja'Kobi Lane's breakout might be real after impressive Ravens preseason debut The Jets are likely to roll into 2026, barring injury, with Garrett Wilson as the WR1, Adonai Mitchell at WR2, and Isaiah Williams at WR3, just like Kay predicts. Cooper was a late first-round pick, and could take some time to turn into a true NFL-caliber starting receiver. That's what Kay is predicting will happen, with Cooper predicted to lose the WR3 battle to Williams. It would be a disappointing result for Cooper, but considering how the first preseason game went and how training camp has gone, this WR3 battle resulting in Cooper as the fourth WR at best to begin the year wouldn't be a surprise.
