NEW YORK — During Monday’s practice, New York Jets running back Breece Hall strained his groin.

He will undergo testing to determine the extent of the injury.

Coach Aaron Glenn told reporters after practice that he is hopeful Hall’s strained groin isn’t too serious.

“I don’t think it was a big deal,” Glenn said. “But I want to make sure I get the evaluation on that.

“We want to make sure that we do everything, that we all get the answers that we can.”

Hall, 25, suffered the injury during 11-on-11 drills. He caught a pass from quarterback Geno Smith and appeared to suffer the injury when he fell on the slick grass after it rained early Monday morning. After falling to the grass, Hall walked to the medical tent to be examined by trainers, who appeared to be looking at his right thigh.

“My stomach dropped a little bit,” Jets backup running back Braelon Allen said about Hall’s injury. “From the sound of it, it don’t seem too serious. So, hope he can get back as quickly as possible.”

Since he entered the league in 2022, Hall has been one of the best players on the Jets’ roster. He became the first Jets running back to cross the 1,000-yard threshold after finishing with 1,065 yards and four touchdowns last season.

Not only has Hall been a key contributor to the Jets’ rushing attack, but his dual-threat ability as a receiver out of the backfield has taken pressure off No. 1 receiver Garrett Wilson and the rest of the offense. During the past three seasons, Hall has averaged 56 receptions and nearly three receiving touchdowns.

In four seasons, Hall has registered 5,040 scrimmage yards, which ranks 14th in the league during that span.

The Jets rewarded Hall for his production during the offseason. He signed a three-year extension worth a base of $43.5 million that can reach up to $45.75 million. The deal includes $29 million in guaranteed money and will keep Hall under contract through the 2028 season.

Hall’s name was rumored to possibly be on the move at the trade deadline last November after the Jets got off to a 1-7 start and traded Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams to the Indianapolis Colts and Dallas Cowboys, respectively. But they decided to keep him and make Hall one of the foundational players through their rebuild.

If Hall is out for an extended period of time, that would further hurt the Jets’ running back depth. Isaiah Davis, who splits carries with Allen, is still recovering from a knee injury he suffered during training camp. In addition to those two, the Jets also have Kene Nwangwu and undrafted rookies Chip Trayanum and Sam Scott on the roster.

“Injuries are a part of this league,” Glenn said. “It’s the biggest equalizer in this league. I think as a coach, obviously, you don’t want to see any of your players go down, but you also have to continue to move forward, and that’s how I operate in those situations.

“But I want to get the evaluation to see exactly where we are when it comes to that.”

Allen says preseason touchdown was a “sigh of relief”

Last Friday night marked the return of Allen, who played in his first game in almost 11 months.

The running back had one of the more memorable plays during the 24-16 preseason loss against the Buccaneers. Allen scored a 31-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, which gave the Jets a 10-0 lead at the time. He is returning from a knee injury he suffered against the Dolphins in Week 4, which prematurely ended his 2025 campaign.

“Kind of a sigh of relief, if I were to put it into words,” Allen said. “Obviously, I knew what I was capable of doing, and I know the type of player I am.

“Obviously, there’s a lot of questions coming off an injury like that. So, to have that play, it felt good.”

The Jets are hoping Allen, along with Hall, can form a tag team in the backfield. While Hall is a versatile running back who can do it all, Allen is more of a downhill power running back who usually does his work between the tackles.

However, on the touchdown run against Tampa Bay, Allen showed his explosiveness by running away from defenders on the outside. Not only does Allen believe his burst is back to where it was before the injury, but he says he’s faster.

“I think it’s better,” he said. “I think I’m faster, more explosive than I’ve ever been.”

Other injury updates

Demario Davis and Minkah Fitzpatrick both received veteran rest days on Monday and did not practice. Glenn said both players are fine.

Wide receiver Garrett Wilson, however, was sick and did not practice. Linebacker Mykal Walker has a calf injury, and undrafted rookie cornerback Mory Bamba has a knee injury and will be out a couple of weeks, according to Glenn.

Bamba recorded four pass defenses, all coming in the second quarter. He also broke up a potential touchdown in the end zone.
