The Vikings quarterback battle did not even make it to the first preseason game. After weeks of build-up, OTAs, and training camp practices, we have now arrived at a decision on the starter by head coach Kevin O'Connell.
On Tuesday, the Minnesota Vikings named Kyler Murray as their starting quarterback for the start of the regular season. ESPN's Adam Schefter was the first to report the news of the decision.
With Murray being named the starter, that leaves McCarthy as the odd man out. But if you ask McCarthy, he seems to understand the process and is ready to start the next chapter.
While speaking to the media after the decision was made by the team, McCarthy offered his honest thoughts and reaction, saying, “A decision was made that was out of my control. Obviously, everyone wants to play. Moving forward, it’s about continuing to work hard and stay ready for when my number is called.”
The answer from a young quarterback that is essentially facing a benching of sorts is impressive. Needless to say, anything can happen in the NFL, so it would make sense for McCarthy to stay ready, as he will have a chance sooner or later to show he deserves to be a starter.
