Joel Mvuka makes surprise move back to his former club

This transfer window has been a relative success from a Celtic point of view, but cast your mind back to the January transfer window and we can all recall what a spectacular failure it was…

Our much publicised embarrassing effort to land our top target Kasper Dolberg saw the incompetent Celtic hierarchy scramble around in a bid to bring in badly required reinforcements, with the likes of Tomas Cvancara, and Junior Adamu being signed on loan.

Another player brought to the club on loan was Joel Mvuka. The winger was meant to be a permanent signing, with a fee of £4 million being mentioned, only for a medical issue to render the move a temporary one.

Mvuka like his fellow loanees failed to make an impression, and his signing was a damning indictment on our recruitment process.

The Norwegian youth international was hauled off at the break on his Celtic debut against Dundee in a Scottish Cup tie at Celtic Park, and played only 87 minutes of football during his stay in Glasgow.

Mvuka headed back to France after his hugely unsuccessful loan stint in the Hoops, and found himself surplus to requirements, leaving the player in limbo once again.

Now it seems that his luck has made a turn for the better, as it now seems that he’s on the move once again, this time in a surprise transfer to former club Bodo/Glimt.

Mvuka previously played for the Norwegian side between 2021-23, making 83 appearances, scoring eight goals, and helping them win two titles, before moving to Lorient.

According to TV 2, Mvuka is on the verge of a switch to the Norwegian league leaders, and will sign a four-year deal.

Mvuka had a decent spell at Kjetil Knutsen’s side first time around, so he’ll be hoping he can kickstart his career back in his homeland.

Obviously we wish him all the best.
