Joey Logano is suddenly getting hot at exactly the right time.

The three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion won Saturday night’s Cook Out 400 at Richmond Raceway, holding off Chase Briscoe to score his second victory of the 2026 season and his second win in the last four races.

Logano crossed the finish line 0.392 seconds ahead of Briscoe after leading 95 of the 400 laps. The victory continued a remarkable turnaround for the Team Penske driver, who has climbed from 20th to ninth in the Cup Series standings over the last six races.

Austin Cindric completed a strong night for Team Penske by finishing third after starting 23rd. Denny Hamlin finished fourth, while Chase Elliott rounded out the top five.

Joey Logano Wins the NASCAR Cup Series Race at Richmond

Briscoe appeared to have the car capable of spoiling Logano’s night.

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver led a race-high 171 laps, but Logano took control for good during the final round of pit stops with 25 laps remaining. Briscoe closed back in during the final run but couldn’t get close enough to make the pass.

Logano’s victory comes after he entered the summer searching for answers following an unusually slow start to the season.

“Don’t let the boys get hot, we’re pretty strong right now,” Logano said after the victory. “It’s awesome to see the speed in the 22 again. Gosh, it was a great car and we’ve had a great car here in the last five races but weren’t able to capitalize on the win. So close, but sweet redemption today.”

Cindric’s third-place finish also carried major championship implications. He jumped from 16th to 15th in the standings, moving into the 16-driver Chase field with two regular-season races remaining.

Hamlin finished fourth and left Richmond with a 115-point advantage atop the standings over Ryan Blaney. Elliott finished fifth, followed by Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell, Josh Berry, William Byron and Alex Bowman.

Larson’s sixth-place result was particularly notable after the defending champion started 30th. All four Hendrick Motorsports drivers ultimately finished inside the top 10.

Blaney, meanwhile, had a far different ending after starting from the pole. He led 88 laps and won Stage 1 but ultimately finished 13th.
