PITTSBURGH — Jared Jones rebounded with a solid start but the Pirates couldn’t figure out Sonny Gray and were defeated 4-0 by the Red Sox at PNC Park on Saturday night.

Scoring Plays

Top 2nd, 1-0 BOS: Wilyer Abreu lined a solo home run to right field off Jared Jones (2-5) to give the Red Sox (66-57) their first lead of the series.

Top 9th, 4-0 BOS: Andruw Monasterio added a pair of insurance runs by splitting the left-center gap for a two-run double off Luke Weaver. Jahmai Jones drove in another with a two-out single.

The Pirates (60-65) had the bases loaded with two outs in the fifth inning but Sonny Gray (15-3) struck out Brandon Lowe to keep the Red Sox 1-0 lead intact.

Sonny Gray blanked the Pirates, scattering six hits across seven innings. He walked one and struck out seven. Gray has allowed two runs in 19 innings pitched across his last three starts.
