Detroit (0-1) kicked off its 2026 NFL preseason on Thursday against Cincinnati (1-0). The Bengals won the NFL preseason Week 1 matchup, 16-14, at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio. Former Tennessee quarterback Joshua Dobbs appeared in the contest for Detroit after signing with the Lions on Monday. He completed 4-of-8 passing attempts for 32 yards, while totaling nine rushing yards on one attempt. Dobbs led the Lions to field goals on two of his three series. The former Vol was sacked one time for five yards. Rookie quarterback Luke Altmyer started for Detroit. He completed 13-of-22 passing attempts for 130 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Altmyer totaled one rushing yard on four attempts. He was sacked one time for 12 yards and fumbled once. Starting quarterback Jared Goff did not play for the Lions at Cincinnati. Detroit will next play on Aug. 22 versus Washington. The NFL preseason Week 2 contest is scheduled for noon EDT at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan.
