Bradley Barcola to Liverpool: PSG Price Drop Could Reshape Anfield Transfer Plans

Liverpool’s interest in Bradley Barcola appears to have entered a more serious phase, with Paris Saint-Germain now understood to be showing flexibility on a deal that had previously looked prohibitive. According to Alex Crook on talkSPORT, PSG could reduce their valuation of the France international from £145m to £125m, a shift that materially changes the complexion of the conversation.

This is a situation Liverpool have been monitoring closely. Contact between clubs has been reported in recent days and the player is believed to be open to the move. The central issue has always been price. At £145m, PSG were setting a level that placed the deal into a category reserved for only the most exceptional and strategically vital signings. At £125m, it remains a premium operation, but one that at least moves into a realistic framework for a club prepared to act decisively.

Barcola transfer fee now under focus

Crook said: “Liverpool fans are getting a little bit concerned about their lack of squad depth heading into the new season. It’s not been a brilliant pre-season campaign for Andoni Iraola.

“We know they’re keen on Bradley Barcola. We reported exclusively on talkSPORT some weeks ago now that he wanted to make the move to Anfield, but that £145m asking price set by PSG has been a real turn-off for Liverpool.

“I’ve been told this morning that could come down a bit to £125m. That would equal the Premier League record fee that Liverpool paid for Alexander Isak.

“I don’t think they have the appetite even to go that high for Barcola but PSG are bringing in reinforcements out wide. Ferran Torres is a done deal [that transfer has now been confirmed]; he won’t be the only new arrival either.”

The significance here lies in leverage. PSG are active in the market and their recruitment out wide may yet create room for movement. If they continue adding forward players, there comes a point where squad balance and dressing-room management become factors, not merely accounting positions. That does not automatically force a sale, but it can soften a negotiating stance.

Liverpool transfer strategy faces key decision

For Liverpool, the next step is unlikely to be impulsive. A £125m package would still demand complete internal conviction, particularly in the first transfer window under Andoni Iraola. Recruitment at that level needs alignment across coaching, data, finance and ownership. It would also need to reflect Barcola’s status as more than a talented winger, he would have to be viewed as a cornerstone signing for the medium term.

That said, the conditions are there for Liverpool to test the market properly. A structured offer, potentially with achievable add-ons, could establish whether PSG’s revised position is cosmetic or genuinely negotiable. With the deadline approaching, timing matters. Selling clubs often speak firmly in public and move pragmatically in private.

PSG and Liverpool both under deadline pressure

There is a growing sense that this transfer now sits in the category of plausible rather than merely ambitious. Liverpool need attacking depth and top-end quality, PSG may be preparing their squad for a different configuration, and the player’s openness to the move keeps the pathway clear.

No outcome is guaranteed, and there is still a considerable gap between interest and agreement. Yet when a price starts to move and circumstances begin to align, serious clubs pay attention. Liverpool may now have a window to explore whether Bradley Barcola is obtainable on terms they can justify.

Our View

From a hopeful Liverpool perspective, this feels like the kind of update supporters have been waiting for. The interest in Bradley Barcola has seemed genuine for a while, but the £145m number always looked designed to shut the door rather than open talks. If PSG are now willing to edge down to £125m, then surely Liverpool have to push.

Supporters will recognise that it is still a huge fee, and no one is suggesting the club should spend recklessly. But elite forwards cost elite money, and Barcola looks like a player who could elevate the attack for years. He is young, dynamic, direct and already operating at the highest level. Those are the profiles Liverpool usually move fastest for when they truly believe.

There is also the broader context. Iraola’s first season needs momentum, excitement and squad depth. Fans want to see a clear statement of intent after an uneven pre-season. If Liverpool believe Barcola is the right fit, then this is the moment to act with confidence.

Even if £125m ends up being too high, a serious bid would at least test PSG’s resolve. With the French side strengthening out wide, there may be more room for compromise than appears publicly. For supporters, this is a chance to dream a little. If Liverpool can land Barcola, it would feel like one of the defining deals of the summer.
