Karl Smesko has spoken out on Angel Reese following a tough, late-game miss against the Indiana Fever.
With the game tied in regulation, Angel Reese grabbed a key offensive rebound but missed the game-winning layup at the buzzer, forcing overtime.
But what made it an even more iconic moment was the fact that cameras caught Caitlin Clark smiling in the background right after the miss, which then led to a Fever win.
Despite the heartbreaking finish, Reese’s teammates immediately rallied around her, with Ryne Howard one of the biggest supporters in the fallout of the loss for the Dream.
Karl Smesko backs Angel Reese to bounce back
In the wake of the Dream’s loss to the Fever, Karl Smesko was talking to the media.
The latter was asked a question specifically about Angel Reese and the missed game-winner, which led to Smesko sharing exactly what he said to her in the moment.
He said: “We just had to move on to the next play. I mean, we didn’t run, there was supposed to be one screen in there and we kind of forgot the screen. But then Ry, you know, took the shot and we told those two to, you know, really crash the boards and give us a second chance. They both did exactly what we asked for them. And then we got two looks, you know, right at the end of the game that, uh, you know, could have won it for us, but, you know, they rolled out. Just kind of a bad break.”
What didn’t help was the criticism after the game, as Skip Bayless threw her straight into the spotlight by saying he’s ‘never seen anything like’ Reese’s miss.
She has the opportunity to write her wrongs against the Las Vegas Ace’s tonight.
