Everybody has a why. A why you get up, a why you sacrifice working at a job that really couldn’t care less about you. Maybe it’s money, maybe it’s family, maybe it’s fame, or maybe it’s just all you know. But that reason, that drive, is what sustains you through the hard times that will come.
After a summer bonding trip to Eastern Kentucky, new big men Franck Kepnang and Ousmane N’Diaye said their favorite moment was when everyone went around the room and told each other what their why was.
Ousmane N'Diaye has played for professional clubs across Europe; however, the 22-year-old found something new on Kentucky's retreat last weekend: a true team connection.

“Just listening to what other person says makes me think about my why. Why do I gotta keep going harder just listening to what everyone else was saying, so it was a good time.”
N’Diaye went on to say that he has never experienced a night like that out with teammates. Nights like that in August are what make those tough moments in training camp and during the games worth it. When you want to fight for the person standing next to you, most will give that little bit more that they didn’t know they had. That’s what makes a team special.
I don’t know what their record will be; I am not going to guess. But I do know it seems that this team is bonding in a way that I don’t think last year’s team was able to do because of the injuries.
It just remains to be seen if that bonding off the court will translate to the court and a more successful season.
