Aug. 18—SIOUX FALLS — With a pair of under-par rounds, Mitchell High School senior Asher Dannenbring cruised to individual medalist honors in the Kernels' first boys golf tournament of the season. At the two-day Warrior-Lynx Invite, Dannenbring shot 1-under-par for both rounds, first with a 70 at Brandon Golf Course on Monday followed by a 69 at Willow Run Golf Course on Tuesday. His cumulative score of 2-under 139 was four strokes clear of runner-up Colton Clark, who led a Sioux Falls Lincoln trio all at 143 strokes. Dannenbring led by one stroke over Sioux Falls Jefferson's Trevor Rick after the first round. Though Dannenbring's second-round score was two strokes back of the pace set by Clark, the MHS senior was the only golfer to record under-par rounds for both days. Clark entered the second round in 18th place at 5-over par. As a team, the Kernels were 13th out of 15 schools in attendance with 661 total strokes between the two rounds. The three individuals who factored into the team score differed between the first and second rounds. On Monday, Eli Konrad (88), Parker Rauscher (93) and Jordan Meyerink (95) scored for MHS, while Tuesday's group included Dayton Adams (80), Ian Weber (81) and Mason Moody (85). Lincoln sailed to the team title, as Clark, Quiton Hollan and Braxton Hollan all ended at 2-over 143 for the tournament. Lincoln's fourth-best scorer was Tyson Blom, who shot a 5-over 146 to finish seventh individually. That left the Patriots with a cumulative score of 575 strokes, just 11-over-par, coming in 19 strokes ahead of second-place Brandon Valley at 594 strokes. Sioux Falls Washington (608), Brookings (614) and Harrisburg (619) rounded out the top five teams, while O'Gorman's Drew Simon slid into the No. 5 spot individually. Mitchell is in action next at the Pierre Invite on Tuesday, Aug. 25, at Hillsview Golf Club.
