Ketel Marte to return to Arizona for MRI after not showing up for Diamondbacks game Monday originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Arizona Diamondbacks got some really strange news on Monday night, as Ketel Marte didn't show up to the ballpark and was then placed on the restricted list by the D-Backs. Multiple reports indicated that he flew into Boston with the team, but didn't show up for their game against the Boston Red Sox. The question is, why did he not show up? Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reported that Marte was "OK physically," but that might've changed with the latest report. Piecoro reported Tuesday morning that Marte is flying back to Arizona, leaving his D-Backs teammates in Boston, to have an MRI on his knee after not showing up for the game Monday night against the Boston Red Sox. Ketel Marte to have MRI on knee after not showing up to play Monday night for D-Backs "Ketel Marte is returning to Arizona to undergo an MRI on his knee, according to a source," Piecoro reports. This saga is now taking another strange turn. Marte didn't show up to the D-Backs game Monday night against the Red Sox, was placed on the restricted list, and there was, and still is, a lot of uncertainty. Piecoro reporting that Marte was "OK physically" on Monday night has been completely turned on its head with this report, as Marte is now having an MRI. To go from being "OK physically" to having an MRI on his knee is a major change for Marte. It's fair to wonder what is actually going on here, as there is so much uncertainty. MORE: Diamondbacks' Corbin Carroll joins only Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio in wild MLB history There is still the question about why he didn't show up on Monday night for the D-Backs game, and why Arizona didn't place him on the injured list if his knee injury was a real problem. So much more to this story has yet to be uncovered, as the circumstances of Marte's knee injury, regarding how it actually happened, how serious it is, and whether he'll play again for the Diamondbacks, are still up in the air. This story won't be over anytime soon, as there is still a lot that's unknown about Marte not showing up for Monday's game and now his apparent knee injury. More MLB news:
