Klint Kubiak reiterates Raiders starting QB job Kirk Cousins' to lose

All eyes were on Fernando Mendoza Thursday night in Las Vegas. The rookie QB took the field for the first time since the team made him their selection with the number one overall pick in April's NFL Draft. But before that happened, Kirk Cousins had the offense. What Cousins did was pretty similar to what we've seen from him in training camp. He efficiently controlled the offense, completing five of six passes for 50 yards and an opening drive touchdown pass to TE Michael Mayer. Still the questions linger as to whether the plan is still to have him as the team's starter moving forward. So, head coach Klint Kubiak reieterated it. “Kirk's been getting the reps with the ones," said Kubiak. "I think he's had a solid training camp and it's his job to lose.” That does leave open the door that by the start of the season Cousins could lose it. But there is no indication at this point that he will do that anytime soon. The 37-year-old has experience in Kubiak's system and it shows. He offers a solid option as the team's starting quarterback until they are sure Fernando Mendoza is ready to step in. And there doesn't appear to be any rush on that.
