Kyle Shanahan downplays star WR's early exit from practice vs Chargers

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan didn't sound too worried about the fact wide receiver Mike Evans left the team's practice vs. the Los Angeles Chargers early. Evans left the session and had his foot or ankle taped up with ice according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner. He eventually moved the ice pack to his quad. Any injury for Evans − who turns 33 on Friday, missed nine games last year due to injury and missed a majority of the start of camp with a quad issue − is going to raise some eyebrows. Particularly when it appears part of the ailment that apparently forced him off the field early included his quad. However, despite the rash of reason for concern, Shanahan downplayed Evans' early exit with reporters in his post-practice press conference. Per NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco, Shanahan classified the issue as "tightness" and didn't believe there was any serious injury associated with the early exit. It'll be worth following this for the next few days. The 49ers won't practice Wednesday before their second preseason game Thursday vs. the Chargers. Evans wasn't likely to participate in the exhibition match anyway, but Shanahan should have an update on his status when he speaks with reporters after Thursday's game.
