Kyler Murray appears to have little interest in revisiting the end of his time with the team that drafted him
After spending the first seven seasons of his professional career with the Arizona Cardinals, the 29-year-old has officially turned the page and is preparing for a new opportunity with the Minnesota Vikings. That became even clearer when he was asked about new Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur’s recent comments regarding the organization’s decision to move on from him “quickly.”
Murray’s response was brief and seemingly intentional.
“I’m not too worried about what’s going on over there,” Murray said. “Focused on what I got going on here in Minnesota. I’m glad to be here.”
The comments come just after Murray was named Minnesota’s starting quarterback for the 2026 season. Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell announced the decision after the team’s training camp session on Tuesday, giving Murray the opportunity to take control of an offense loaded with proven talent.
Murray’s departure from Arizona marked the end of a complicated seven-year run. The Cardinals selected him No. 1 overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, and he quickly established himself as one of the league’s most dynamic dual-threat quarterbacks. By the time the two sides parted ways, Murray had accumulated over 20,000 passing yards and 121 touchdown passes.
Now, Murray has a chance to redefine his career in Minnesota.
Rather than continuing to discuss what went wrong in Arizona, Murray appears determined to focus on the opportunity directly in front of him. The Vikings are more than simply another stop in his NFL career. They offer an opportunity to prove that he can still be the quarterback capable of elevating an offense and making Minnesota a legitimate contender.
The decision to name him the starter also provides clarity for the Vikings. Murray entered camp competing against McCarthy, but O’Connell ultimately determined that the veteran gave Minnesota the best option heading into the 2026 season.
Murray now has an opportunity to let his play do the talking.
Whatever Arizona’s reasoning was for moving on from him, Murray does not appear interested in spending energy on it. His message is simple. His time with the Cardinals is over, and his attention is now on Minnesota. Murray looks hungry to prove his doubters wrong and return to Pro Bowl form.
“I’m glad to be here” might be a short statement, but it says plenty about where Murray’s focus lies.
The next chapter of his career is officially underway.
