The Lady Bulldogs opened the soccer season at Greenfield-Central Saturday. Batesville split with the Lady Cougars with the varsity posting a win and the junior varsity falling by one goal.
“We battled stormy weather and then sunny humidity; varsity’s first half being a torrential downpour,” Coach Crystal Peters noted.
In the varsity match, Greenfield-Central scored the opening goal to go up 1-0. Batesville put together a second half rally to knock off the Lady Cougars 2-1.
A hard tackle in the box by the Lady Cougars on Batesville’s Elia Wade gave the Lady Bulldogs a penalty kick. Hailee Weisenbach stepped up to take the PK and drilled it into the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1.
With about three minutes left to play in the contest, Batesville’s Alyssa Cummings slipped Maddie Prewitt a pass on the left side of the field on top of the 18-box corner. Prewitt sent a high crossed shot over the goalkeeper’s head for the game winner.

The host squad knocked off Batesville 1-0 in the junior varsity match. Early into the game, Greenfield-Central scored off a corner ball. The ball bounced in the box to a Lady Cougar for an easy tap in and win.

Batesville travels to Rushville Thursday. The varsity contest starts at 5:30 p.m. with the junior varsity following with one half of action.
