Los Angeles has added several new pieces this summer and is hoping the roster will fit well alongside its superstar. The Lakers have been linked to another notable name for some time, and adding him would give the team a proven veteran presence. Four-time NBA champion Klay Thompson is reportedly interested in playing for Los Angeles. “My understanding is that Thompson would welcome a return to Los Angeles, where he spent part of his childhood and still owns a home. The Miami Heat are another team frequently mentioned in NBA circles as a potential landing spot for the future Hall of Famer," The Athletic's Christian Clark wrote. Thompson has been one of the more interesting players to watch this summer as the Dallas Mavericks determine whether they will trade him or eventually agree to a buyout. However, the five-time All-Star has made it clear that he wants to play for a contender. “I want to compete for a Championship, not necessarily win one, but just have the chance to go and try and get another one… I want to play a role on a team that I want to make a deep playoff run,” Thompson said. Los Angeles would be willing to explore a trade for Thompson, especially if it could involve other teams to make the deal work financially. Heavy.com’s Adel Ahmad believes the Lakers could land Thompson in a proposed four-team deal that would send Jarred Vanderbilt out of Los Angeles. “Lakers receive: Klay Thompson and a 2031 second round pick (via POR). Mavs receive: Vit Crejci and a 2031 second round pick (via LAL). Trail Blazers receive: Jarred Vanderbilt and Moritz Wagner. Nets receive: Robert Williams,” Ahmad wrote. This would give Doncic a legitimate elite shooter on the perimeter who could create even more space for the Lakers' offense. One of the team's biggest needs is another reliable go-to scorer and shooter alongside Doncic and Austin Reaves. Thompson has made $298 million in NBA contracts throughout his career. The Lakers would also finally move on from Vanderbilt's contract while adding a proven championship veteran. If Los Angeles could get this four-team deal done, it would be a major win for the organization. More NBA news:
