It was announced on Friday that 1892 Holdings, a consortium headed by former Queens Park Rangers director Amit Bhatia, will take on a minority equity position in the Reds following productive discussions with owners Fenway Sports Group. Early indications suggested the investment represented between 30% and a third of the club, which is assessed in the transaction at between $5 billion (£4.4 billion) and $6 billion (£3.7 billion).

The investment amount, which was initially estimated at around £1.4 billion ($1.9 billion), would actually be closer to £2 billion ($2.7 billion). FSG currently maintain control of Liverpool but, under the terms of the arrangement, 1892 Holdings possess an option to acquire a majority stake within the coming 12 months. There is, however, no binding obligation for this to occur, with any additional investment not predetermined in the agreement. To listen to the latest episode of 'All Out Soccer' - CLICK HERE The consortium comprises investments from Bhatia and the Mittal Family Trusts, the K5 Sports fund, where Amazon boss Bezos serves as the principal investor, and EE Capital, the family office of Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin and his wife Elaine. Following regulatory clearance of the investment transaction, Bhatia will assume the role of Liverpool's new vice-chairman and join a newly enlarged board that also features Elaine Saverin of EE Capital and Bryan Baum from K5 Sports. Following confirmation of the investment, Bhatia said: "We are incredibly proud to be investing in Liverpool Football Club and to be doing so alongside FSG. "We have the utmost respect and admiration for FSG as owners and for everything they have achieved at Anfield. To be welcomed as a partner in a club of this stature is a huge privilege. We are making this investment because we believe deeply in Liverpool and its leadership, and we look forward to supporting the club's continued success for years to come."
