Liverpool are reportedly planning to commence talks over a new contract for one first-team regular at Anfield.

There have already been a couple of significant extensions in L4 over the past few months, with Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai both penning new deals, and the Reds are now hoping that another of their summer 2023 signings will follow suit.

Liverpool planning contract talks with Mac Allister

According to CaughtOffside, LFC chiefs intend to tie down Alexis Mac Allister for the long-term and plan to open negotiations over a new contract later this year, with the Argentina midfielder having two years remaining on his current deal.

Liverpool view the 27-year-old as ‘a central figure in their long-term project’ and value him at €100m (£85.5m), and the Reds’ number 10 is keen to work with new head coach Andoni Iraola.

Amid rumoured interest from Manchester City and Chelsea over the past month (both clubs reportedly made contact regarding the player), his father and agent Carlos is adamant that the 2022 World Cup winner will remain at Anfield (WinWin).

Mac Allister renewal should be a priority for Liverpool in the autumn

The sooner that Liverpool can get the ball rolling on contract renewal talks with Mac Allister, the better.

Speculation over a potential exit to a direct Premier League rival for the man who played the fifth-most minutes of anyone for the Reds last season (3,885) is something Iraola certainly doesn’t need as his reign begins in earnest with the start of the top-flight campaign next weekend.

The 27-year-old may have fallen well short of his usual top-class standards during the 2025/26 campaign, but he proved his quality with a string of dominant performances in Argentina’s run to a second successive World Cup final over the summer.

Also, given the persistent interest of Inter Milan in Curtis Jones and the growing possibility of that mooted transfer coming off, Liverpool could absolutely do without losing two first-team midfielders so late in the window.

Once the market shuts after 1 September, the Anfield hierarchy must prioritise talks with Mac Allister ove a potential new deal and put to bed any worries over a premature exit from Merseyside for our number 10.
