Eduardo Juarez Garcia had three goals and an assist to lead the Wildcats (1-0). Coleman Schwartz, Joseph Brinson and Brooks Covington each added a goal, while Alex Juarez Garcia chipped in three assists.

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Bishop McGuinness won 25-18 against Upstate after losing 25-15, 25-15 against Sun Valley, 25-10, 25-15 against Providence, 26-24, 25-18 against Ayden-Grifton and 25-20, 25-18 against TC Roberson in girls’ volleyball Friday and Saturday in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
Gwen Feeney had seven kills against Upstate. Miah Sumanth and Anna Sumanth each had 11 digs. Jojo Seeber had 11 assists. Sasha Thompson, Tabitha Bigwood had two kills and five blocks against Sun Valley. Miah Sumanth had seven digs, and Seeber had three assists.

THOMASVILLE — Four area runners placed in top 10 of the 5K races during Saturday’s Bob Schilly Invitational cross-country meet at East Davidson.
Oak Grove’s Bryson Vann took fourth (16:14.03) in the boys 5K race, followed by teammate Mason Moore in ninth (17:07.73). Wheatmore’s Ayden Fitzgerald was seventh (16:53.45) for the boys, while Scarlett Hildreth placed fifth (21:27.58) for the girls.
Oak Grove’s Amelia Kotris won the girls 3K race in 14:08.79, while East Davidson’s Jalyn Causey was third in 14:28.14.

WOMEN’S SOCCER FALLS TO DAVIDSON
HIGH POINT — High Point University lost 1-0 against Davidson in nonconference women’s soccer Sunday at Vert Stadium.
The Wildcats scored the lone goal of the match in the 13th minute.
The Panthers finished with a 9-5 advantage in shots — including 6-2 on goal — and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
Nylah Mirshafiei made one save in goal for High Point.
MEN’S SOCCER CLOSES PRESEASON WITH WIN OVER QUEENS
HIGH POINT — High Point University concluded its men’s soccer preseason with a 3-1 win over Queens in front of Move-In Weekend crowd of 2,013 fans Saturday evening at Vert Stadium.
Nick Sarantakos, James VandeHei and Josh Nwokeji each scored for the Panthers, who reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament last year. Aidan Morrison and Noah Joseph each had an assist.
High Point will open its regular season Thursday at home against LIU at 7:30 p.m.
ROCKERS LOSE TWO OF THREE AT GASTONIA
HIGH POINT — The High Point Rockers won 11-3 on Saturday but lost 11-8 on Friday and 5-1 on Sunday against the Gastonia Ghost Peppers in Atlantic League baseball at Truist Point.
On Friday, Luke Napleton had three hits — including two doubles — and three RBIs. Ryan McCarthy added two hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Hogan Windish, who doubled, and Ty Hubbard each had two hits and an RBI.
Matt Colucci took the pitching loss, striking out three in 3 1/3 innings.
On Saturday, McCarthy doubled, homered and drove in four. Ivan Melendez had three hits, including a home run, and three RBIs, while Luke Napleton had two hits, including a home run, and an RBI.
Brayden Matthews earned the win in relief, striking out two in three innings.
On Sunday, Melendez had two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Hubbard, Ethan Skender and DJ Burt each had a hit. Yuhi Sako took the pitching loss.
The Rockers moved to 47-55 overall and 18-21 in the second half — in fourth place in the divisional standings, four games behind Lexington with four weeks left. High Point will visit York this week for a six-game series.
