One of the most enjoyable aspects during this time of the year is the sky high expectations from fanbases. Every player is healthy (for the most part), every club is undefeated, and every league race is wide open. Except the Bundesliga, of course, where Bayern Munich reigns supreme. Luckily, betting and prediction site FanDuel is around to keep fans in line and provide a more realistic view of the upcoming season.

Let’s take a look at how the oddsmakers are looking at Bayern Munich entering this season. Of course, clubs can plan for glory and fans can dream of it, but the oddsmakers are there to look at the reality of it all and set the pace for how things might play out.

Bundesliga

Favorite: Bayern Munich (-800)

Once again, Bayern is a heavy favorite to three-peat on the domestic front. After last season’s 122-goal campaign, Bayern reinforced the squad with Ismael Saibari and Nathaniel Brown. There is nothing that suggests Bayern will slow down in the Bundesliga.

BestValue: RB Leipzig (+1600)

Borussia Dortmund added a trio of young, talented prospects, along with Joey Veerman, but did not do much to upgrade the starting XI. Although Bayern is still the only bet to take, Leipzig’s ability to develop talent quickly gives them the best chance to make a run at Bayern’s crown. Leipzig would need to be nearly perfect and mirror Bayer Leverkusen’s 2023/24 undefeated season.

Top 4 Best Value: Stuttgart (+250)

Stuttgart snuck into the Champions League spot this year but will likely face an early exit. Luckily, Stuttgart brought back the entire squad and will be able to get back to the Champions League under Sebastian Hoeneß. Hoffenheim, Bayer Leverkusen, and SC Freiburg will be more focused on European competitions, while the outside contenders like Eintracht Frankfurt and Union Berlin don’t have the horses to win enough Bundesliga matches.

Champions League

Favorite: Paris Saint-Germain (+500)

PSG defended its European throne in May in a penalty shootout victory over Arsenal. In the last 50 years, only Real Madrid (2016-2018) has won three in a row but PSG has a solid chance given the weaknesses of the French Ligue 1. PSG returns the entire core from last year, along with new additions Maghnes Akliouche (Monaco), Ferran Torres (Barcelona), and Mika Godts (Ajax).

Best Value: Real Madrid (+750)

This is a worst case scenario for most soccer fans but it is hard to deny the overwhelming talent assembled in Madrid. Jude Bellingham is playing the best soccer of his career and Los Blancos added some serious firepower with Yan Diomande and World Cup winner Marc Cucurella. More importantly, Madrid also added veterans Ibrahima Konaté, Denzel Dumfries, and Bernardo Silva for a total transfer cost of €20M.

Home Team: Bayern (+650)

Bayern is tied with Arsenal for the second-best odds and that feels like a fair assessment. Vincent Kompany will want to see the team finish near the top of the group stage table again, although he might reconsider Bundesliga lineup decisions like draining the starters in the Heidenheim match right before the second leg against PSG. Bayern will also need to find a second or third tactical formation that is a better fit to handle the counterattacking styles that have plagued Bayern in the later rounds.

Conclusion

The odds make it clear — Bayern Munich enters the season as the clear domestic favorite, but faces a much more complicated challenge in Europe.

In the Bundesliga, the outlook is extremely positive. The -800 odds reflect the expectation that Bayern Munich should have enough talent and depth to win another title, particularly after scoring 122 goals last season and adding further reinforcements. The excerpt essentially views Bayern’s domestic competition as a step below them, with RB Leipzig presented as the most realistic challenger but still requiring an exceptional season to seriously threaten Bayern.

The Champions League is a different story. Bayern Munich’s +650 odds, tied for second with Arsenal, suggest that they are considered genuine contenders but not the outright favorite. The biggest question is not Bayern Munich’s talent, it is whether Kompany can solve some of the tactical problems that have appeared against strong counterattacking opponents. The excerpt also raises an important issue about squad management and rotation, particularly avoiding situations where key starters are unnecessarily exhausted before major European matches.

Overall, the picture is of a Bayern Munich team that should be expected to dominate domestically and has the quality to win the Champions League, but still has something to prove in the biggest European knockout matches. If Kompany can develop additional tactical solutions and manage the squad better around Champions League fixtures, Bayern Munich could make a serious run at Europe’s biggest prize.
