New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel had high praise for Kayshon Boutte, as the veteran enters a crucial training camp. Boutte has been the subject of trade rumors and speculation throughout the offseason. The Patriots are loaded at the receiver position, and most have assumed that the team would be willing to move on for the right trade offer. A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs are viewed as the top two wideouts currently on the roster, which could mean fewer opportunities for Boutte in the final year of his contract. With that said, the LSU product has put together an impressive training camp, as Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels continues to find ways to get him involved. Throughout all of the speculation, Boutte has kept his head down and continued to work. And it has clearly earned the respect of head coach Mike Vrabel and the rest of the coaching staff. “You show up to camp, you compete, and then you try to earn a role." Vrabel told media members on Monday. "That’s what everybody’s trying to do, and Kayshon included. I appreciate what he does each and every day. He made a huge play for us [Saturday] in the two-minute [drill]. Made a huge play for us, just like he did last year, multiple times when we called on him. So he’s ready to go, he’s prepared, and he’s trying to earn a role on this football team.” When speaking with reporters last week, Patriots wide receivers coach Todd Downing took the praise a step further. He views Boutte's handling of the situation as textbook professionalism. "It's an example I will use for the rest of my coaching career…," Downing said, via ESPN's Mike Reiss.
