LSU football transfers talk Ed Orgeron's impact on team

LSU football got its former head coach Ed Orgeron back as an assistant for defense and recruiting under Lane Kiffin. He is making his presence known across the team, even on the other side of the ball. Players continue talking about the impact his presence on the practice field as fall camp heats up. "Coach O is probably the loudest coach I've ever heard, but he's also the funniest, and he means business," offensive tackle Jordan Seaton said. Orgeron departed LSU after leading it to the 2019 national championship. Since then, the Tigers have yet to play meaningful postseason football. They face high expectations with Kiffin at the helm and a retooled roster that boasts the No. 1 transfer portal class and a young core from the 2026 high school signing class. A defensive line coach in his early days coming up through the college ranks, Orgeron oversees a bevy of newcomers from other schools and true freshmen, including five-stars Lamar Brown and Richard Anderson. Both defensive linemen hail from Louisiana and interacted publicly with Orgeron early in their LSU careers. Ole Miss transfer Princewill Umanmielen came with Kiffin after an All-SEC season with the Rebels. The defensive end said Orgeron makes a difference in the team's preparations for the upcoming season. "He was loud and he was real passionate," Umanmielen said. "You could tell his energy was going to change the tone of the whole team. He's a great addition to the team. We look forward to having him here." Orgeron earned the team's respect through his tough demeanor and history with the program, according to Seaton. He said the team needs those leadership qualities in every coach to win. "He doesn't take BS and I think we need that from all our coaches, and he's a big part of that," Seaton said. "He's been in this program before, so he knows what it looks like to win, and I'm happy to have him. We all are."
