Enzo Maresca revealed that Erling Haaland and Ruben Dias are two of his four captains for next season.
Bernardo Silva was Manchester City captain last season, but has since left the club and joined Real Madrid this summer.
Maresca was asked whether he has chosen his captains ahead of the Community Shield final against Arsenal.
“At the moment I have picked Ruben [Dias] and Erling [Haaland], and I want to wait until the end of the transfer window to pick two more,” he answered.
“Ruben showed during his time at this club how good he is as a player. In terms of being a leader, it is important for the captains to understand that the reason why they are captain is that I expect more from them, not because I give them more freedom or I give them more advantage.
“It’s the opposite for me. The leadership group, the captains are the ones that have to show more and give more in every moment.”
This summer, Elliot Anderson has joined Man City for £116 million from Nottingham Forest. Maresca explained how the midfielder will fit into the squad.
“He is a holding midfielder,” he said. “He can also be an attacking midfielder.
“I mean, the good thing about Elliot, first of all, is that he’s young, so you can work with him. You can help him to improve. You can help him to improve as a six. You can help him to improve as an eight. At Forest he was playing next to Sangare; with England he was playing next to Rice, so two physical players next to him.
“But I also think that in some games he doesn’t need physical players next to him. It depends a little bit on the game plan or the other team.”
