Good morning friends!

The Mariners couldn’t hang onto an early lead in last night’s game against the Yankees, dropping the middle match 10-5. The gods have cursed us with another Mariners baseball game today with first pitch slated for 10:35am PT.

In Mariners news…

  • The Mariners claimed catcher Willie MacIver off waivers from the Blue Jays.
  • The M’s have agreed to a minor league deal with right-hander Scott Effross.
  • Zach Crizer wrote about Cal Raleigh’s complete fall from grace just one year after his near-MVP season.

Around the league…

  • The Tigers placed outfielder Riley Greene on the injured list with a right hamstring strain.
  • Both chambers of the California State Legislature have signed off on a measure that would force the Angels to go back to being called the “Anaheim Angels.” Team owner Arte Moreno has long opposed the dropping of “Los Angeles” from the team name, but the state is asking the team to claim the city of Anaheim in exchange for an affordable housing exemption.
  • Several Angels players spent the trade deadline at Mike Trout’s private golf course. Davy Andrews at Fangraphs did an analysis on where exactly on the course everyone was when they found out they were getting dealt — and why Trout decided to do this in the first place.
  • This is pretty remarkable.

Anders’ pick…

  • Rumor has it that Nintendo plans to release a port for Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald on the Nintendo Switch 2 within the next couple of months.
