There's expected to be a lot of movement around Major League Baseball this offseason, managerial-wise.

Right now, there are questions about whether baseball will be in a lockout, though most expect it will.

If it does, we'll see a lot of strange things happen with free agency, but we should have an answer on who the managers are by then. Especially if teams miss the playoffs, we'll get a good indication rather early on about how things will look.

Right now, there are many managers on the hot seat, including the Seattle Mariners, who are one of the more disappointing teams in Major League Baseball.

Skipper Dan Wilson has not done a bad job, so to speak, but he hasn't done enough to suggest that he should keep his job. Recently, as teams looked at potential replacements, one former Major League veteran, Miguel Cairo, who played in the league for 17 years, has been mentioned.

“This might be a surprising fit, but don’t sleep on Cairo finally earning a full-time managerial position. He went 18-16 as the White Sox’s interim manager in 2022 while filling in for Tony La Russa. The 17-year MLB veteran also served as the Nationals’ interim skipper last year, going 29-43 amid an organizational restructure.

“Whether it’s Cairo or someone else, I’m especially interested to see how a new manager would handle Cal Raleigh, whose emotional immaturity has only grown far more concerning throughout the season. Wilson has seemingly enabled Raleigh’s lack of accountability going all the way back to the World Baseball Classic,” Jake Elman wrote.

The interesting part about Cairo is that he has coaching experience and is currently on the Washington Nationals staff. He played infield throughout his career and understands what it takes to play in Major League Baseball, which can be a big plus for players in a clubhouse.

At the same time, there's no guarantee that he's going to be a perfect option for the Mariners, who need a lot of help at the moment.
