MEMPHIS, Tenn. — In the last 60 years only three people have held the position for lead golf producer with CBS Sports. Memphis native Sellers Shy is one of them, after earning the title in 2021. CBS has carried the PGA tour going back to 1951, and over the last four decades, Shy has been behind some of the biggest scenes in golf. "I've been with it with CBS, off and on for, ever since I was a junior in high school," said Shy, who first caught the television bug as an intern with WREG, "I put a lot of tournaments high up on my list, first off the Masters, the PGA Championship and then along with this tournament. This tournament means as much as any," he said. His roots with local professional golf date back to the days of the Danny Thomas Memphis Classic. "I started as a runner back in 1986. I was at 18, catching Mike Holbert's 110-yard shot." From thousands in the gallery marveling at Sheffler's Shuffle to Rory achieving the grand Slam, Shy has seen it all, leading the CBS crew to frame the moments that stand the test of time. "Probably the most satisfying time for me is to see that, while we are 21 weeks in, into our golf coverage, that that everyone is acting like it's their first," he said. "And this is what really the tour wants because it's their prime season is their playoffs. And, and we're here to deliver for them." But producing live network television in the high-stakes postseason comes with plenty of heat. When asked the last time he felt pressure, he said, "Every time you sit down, you feel that pressure. You know, it's a network show and their standards, frankly, a man to the right of me, the directed Tiger Woods, his 1997 masters. I'm a man to the left of me that rode on the John Madden bus. It shows you how embedded we are with this network. And, hopefully it shows, on the screen when, when the viewers are watching." As the unofficial chaperone for the PGA Tour's first leg of the FEDEX Cup Playoffs, there's no other place like home for the man made in Memphis. "I find myself pinching myself when we come down to air on a Saturday and on a Sunday thinking that, it wasn't too long ago, call it 35 years ago that I was just a spotter here at this tournament. So, of course, I it it means the world to me. And hopefully, I can make Memphis proud once again this week." Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
