The New York Mets have reportedly made a roster move before Monday's series opener against the San Diego Padres.
According to Mike Rodriguez of Rompiendo Sports, the Mets have selected Christopher Morel's contract from Triple-A Syracuse.
"According to my sources, Dominican Christopher Morel has been called up to the Major Leagues by the New York Mets," Rodriguez wrote on X. "Morel was hitting .309 with an impressive 1.033 OPS in the Minor Leagues."
Morel, 27, began the season with the Miami Marlins, but he was designated for assignment after hitting just .162 with a .425 OPS and 28 strikeouts in 73 trips to the plate.
New York agreed to a minor league contract with the five-year veteran toward the end of June. He hit .321 with 12 homers in 123 plate appearances at Triple-A Syracuse.

He burst onto the scene with the Chicago Cubs in 2022 and hit a career-high 26 homers the following season.
Morel strikes out a lot but can provide the Mets with pretty good power if he can carry the success he had at Triple-A to the Majors.
The Mets are out of postseason contention and don't carry much risk with a move like this.
