New York Mets fans can’t get enough of Jefry Yan’s acrobatic celebration when he strikes out a batter in relief, as it’s become quite the social media sensation.

But Yan got too excited on Saturday afternoon in the Mets’ thrilling walk-off win over the Washington Nationals at Citi Field when he performed the viral celebration.

The pitch hadn’t been called strike three.

Yan made his Citi Field debut in front of the Mets faithful, and in the top of the ninth with an 0-2 count and two out, he thought he placed his fastball perfectly on the outside corner to strike out Nasim Nuñez to end the frame.

The home plate umpire thought otherwise, but Yan was already midair in celebration. Yan, who seems to have springs in his feet with the way he jumps into the air to start his celebration, noticed that strike three wasn’t called.

As he touched back down on the mound, he started tapping the top of his hat to challenge the ball, forcing an ABS review.

But, after review, the umpire’s call for a ball stood.

"Now, that was funny," Mets longtime play-by-play announcer Gary Cohen said on the SNY broadcast.

After everyone got their laughs out, Yan made sure the celebration didn’t come back to haunt him. Two pitches later, he got Nuñez to strike out on a slider. This time, the celebration was worth it.

At the time of the strikeout, the Mets were down by a run heading into the bottom of the ninth inning. They needed to muster at least one run to force extra innings, but the offense wanted to end the game in their favor instead.

Brett Baty walked to begin the inning and things got very interesting when Jorge Polanco singled to put the winning run on base. Then, Francisco Alvarez roped a double to left, tying the game as Baty came across the plate with the winning run moving to third base.

Francisco Lindor would start a celebration for everyone at Citi Field, especially Yan and the rest of his Mets teammates, when he singled home the winning run to walk it off in the ninth.

In doing so, Yan earned his first career win in MLB after pitching a scoreless 1.2 innings for the Mets.

Yan, a 29-year-old rookie, has had quite the year, which began in the minors. That’s where the baseball world learned of his unique celebration after getting strikeouts, and the big leagues have seen it now over his first five appearances for New York.

But whenever Yan wants to jump and tap the ground to celebrate, perhaps he’ll make certain the umpire has rung up the hitter before doing so.

Then again, he was really hoping to do it with Mets fans in the stands on his home field.

"I felt really welcome today," Yan said through a translator about his first Citi Field appearance.

Yan, who struck out three hitters in his outing on Saturday, owns a 1.80 ERA thus far.
