The drama between Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels and LSU is now being mocked by the New York Mets.
Daniels has been heavily criticized after news emerged on Thursday that an attorney representing the quarterback informed LSU in a cease-and-desist letter that the school could no longer use his name, image, or likeness in any capacity. The 2023 Heisman winner and his family are angry that Lane Kiffin and the LSU program gave Daniels’ No. 5 to sophomore cornerback DJ Pickett.
Along with the cease-and-desist letter, Daniels’ spokesperson released the following statement to ESPN:
“The Daniels family is deeply disappointed and feels profoundly disrespected by LSU’s decision to give Jayden’s number to another player. Jayden and his family had every reason to believe that his number would remain a meaningful part of his LSU legacy and would be honored and protected in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the university.
“Jayden made it clear that he did not want his number given to another player, and he believed his wishes would be respected. His Heisman Trophy-winning season and everything he accomplished on and off the field cemented his place in LSU history. To see his number given to another player is incredibly disappointing and feels like a failure to honor the significance of what Jayden accomplished at LSU.”
Well, in addition to the criticism, Daniels has received a lot of mocking on social media, and the Mets joined in there on Friday night.
After New York took down the Washington Nationals 4-1, the official Mets account posted on X, “Stopped at 4 out of respect for Jayden Daniels.”

While it’s an incredible social media post regardless, it’s even more satisfying for the Mets and their fans.
After the Mets were left out of the playoffs last year, Daniels told the media, “That brought a smile to my face.”
Jayden Daniels wasn’t totally wrong. But he didn’t have to say it like that. #LGM. pic.twitter.com/jGLVYwv7Fa

The Mets certainly got Daniels back for that one in a big way.
