College football schedules generally aren't made just a year or two in advance (though conference schedules aren't set until less than a year before). And with the College Football Playoff expanding, the likelihood of big home-and-home matchups being scheduled is starting to dwindle.
With that, Michigan football has announced that it is adding Central Michigan to the 2028 and 2031 schedules, which will be the season opener for each year. Now Michigan has a season opener set for every year through 2034 except in 2030 and 2032, including big games in 2033 and 2034 against off-and-on-again rival Notre Dame.

Here is every opponent on the future schedule for Michigan football:
- 2027: Buffalo (Sept. 4), at Texas (Sept. 11), Eastern Michigan (Sept. 18), Illinois, Ohio State, Oregon, Rutgers, at Indiana, at Iowa, at MSU, at Penn State, at UCLA
- 2028: Central Michigan (Sept. 2), Maryland, MSU, Nebraska, Northwestern, USC, at Ohio State, at Purdue, at Washington, at Wisconsin
- 2029: Western Michigan (Sept. 1)
- 2030: Eastern Michigan (Sept. 7)
- 2031: Central Michigan (Aug. 30)
- 2033: Notre Dame (Sept. 3)
- 2034: at Notre Dame (Sept. 2)
The 2027 season will see Illinois come to The Big House for the first time since 2022. It will also be the first time that Michigan has been at Iowa since that same year, and the first return to Happy Valley since 2023. It will be the first return to Rose Bowl Stadium since the Rose Bowl win over Alabama on January 1, 2024.
2028 will welcome Maryland to The Big House for the first time since 2022, with Nebraska coming for the first time since 2023. Michigan hasn't played at Purdue since 2017 or at Wisconsin since 2021.
The Eastern Michigan game in 2030 will take place in Week 2 of the season.
The 2033-34 series against Notre Dame resumes the rivalry for the first time since 2019.
