It's hard not to notice that, these last few years, Tom Izzo has had a shift in his approach to the center position, seemingly prioritizing size more in these last few recruiting classes. We saw that with his pursuit and eventual addition of Ethan Taylor in the 2026 class, and with the addition of Anton Bonke through the transfer portal this year. It looks like that trend will continue as MSU recently offered the massive 2027 4-star center Akol Nyok out of Miami, Florida.
Nyok is 7-foot-1 and known for his impressive speed, rare for someone that big, and his rim protection skills. Nyok is the No. 132-ranked player in the 2027 recruiting class by the 247Sports composite rankings and their No. 16 ranked center overall.
Marquette, Virginia Tech, and Maryland are listed as the current top contenders for his commitment, but he has several other high-profile offers from teams like Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida Atlantic. This will be an interesting one to monitor, as MSU is also in the mix for 2027 center Kamsi Awaka.
