Michigan State forward Jaxon Kohler plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3’s Joe Tipton reports. He spent the offseason playing with the Utah Jazz throughout the NBA Summer League, but has regained eligibility thanks to the five-for-five rule and a Colorado judge’s decision to grant a preliminary injunction to all members of the 2022 recruiting class.
Kohler spent all four seasons of his college career so far with Michigan State, arriving as a four-star prospect ranked No. 54 in the Rivals Consensus Rankings. He went on to play a key role under Tom Izzo, moving from a bench role as a freshman and sophomore to the starting lineup.

In the 2025-26 season, Kohler averaged 12.5 points and 8.9 rebounds. He also upped his three-point shooting, knocking down 38.9-percent behind the arc on 4.3 attempts per game.
After going undrafted in the 2026 NBA Draft, Kohler agreed to join the Utah Jazz Summer League team. He appeared in multiple games off the bench, averaging 6.0 points and 5.3 rebounds across four appearances in Las Vegas and Salt Lake City.
Kohler becomes one of the top available players on the market as teams scramble to fill out their roster with a new pool of talent added back into the mix. Other notable players to quickly announce their plan to enter the transfer portal include Missouri forward Mark Mitchell, UCLA guard Donovan Dent, and Ole Miss guard AJ Storr.
Preliminary injunction for 2022 class opens door
Judge Charlotte Sweeney of the U.S. District Court of Colorado has granted a class-wide preliminary injunction that requires the NCAA to declare eligible all high school class of 2022 athletes who exhausted four seasons of eligibility this spring, according to documents obtained by On3’s Pete Nakos.
“All persons in the United States who began to play in collegiate sports in the 2022-2023 season, competed in NCAA Division I sports, and completed four years of eligibility as defined by the NCAA’s prior rules by the conclusion of the 2025-2026 season, and are therefore barred from playing a fifth season due to the NCAA’s adoption and immediate implementation of the Five-Year Eligibility Rule,” the class certification read.
For the players included in the injunction, the Portal will be open from Aug. 3 through Aug. 10.
