‘Mike Evans Is Cooked,’ ‘Vibes Are Terrible’ — NFL Fans React As 49ers WR Exits Practice With Latest Injury

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Mike Evans exited Tuesday’s joint practice with the Los Angeles Chargers with a left foot/ankle injury.

Evans, who joined the 49ers in free agency after a legendary stint with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has been dealing with a quadriceps injury throughout training camp.

Mike Evans’ Latest Injury Draws Strong Reactions

ESPN’s Nick Wagoner revealed that Evans pulled up during practice and then had his left foot/ankle wrapped and iced as he watched the rest of the session from the sidelines.

NFL fans on X had mixed reactions to Evans’ latest injury. One fan hit the panic button about the wide receiver’s first season in San Francisco.

“Ya, Mike Evans is cooked this season,” they predicted.

One 49ers fan hoped that Evans’ injury was not serious and that the wide receiver would be okay.

“Please tell me it was a run-of-the-mill rolled ankle and not something else,” they pleaded.

Another user blasted Evans’ 49ers move from the Bucs, which hasn’t gone according to plan thus far.

“Vibes are terrible so far with Evans,” they wrote.

Another 49ers fan suggested that the wide receiver should be shut down for the rest of the team’s preseason.

“Sigh…hopefully not too bad and just save him for the rest of the camp/preseason,” the fan wrote.

One Bucs fan argued that Evans’ surprise move from Tampa to San Francisco wasn’t smart.

“Mike Evans leaving Tampa to go to a team that is notorious for having soft tissue injuries wasn’t a good idea,” the Bucs fan stated.

Another user was not optimistic about Evans overcoming his latest injury.

“Terrible. Probably done for the rest of TC and if this is a high ankle sprain, he may miss regular season time now,” they lamented.

Evans’ last season in Tampa was beset by injuries, including a hamstring strain sustained in a Week 3 game against the New York Jets, which sidelined him for three games. The wide receiver also suffered a concussion and a broken clavicle later in the season. In total, he played just eight games.

He earned a PFN WR Impact Score of 79.9 (which ranked No. 63 in the league) after tallying 368 receiving yards and 3 scores on 30 receptions for the Bucs during an injury-plagued season.

Evans was selected No. 7 overall in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Bucs and quickly established himself as one of the league’s most productive wide receivers.

In Tampa, he earned two second-team All-Pro nods, six Pro Bowl selections, and led the league in receiving touchdowns in 2023.

The wide receiver left Tampa after 12 seasons to sign a three-year, $42.4 million contract with the 49ers (but it is essentially a one-year deal worth $14.3 million). The Buccaneers reportedly offered more, but Evans decided to leave for San Francisco in hopes of winning a second Super Bowl ring.
